Yufuin: Lake Kinrin & Ryokan Village

Yufuin, about 25 minutes inland from Beppu, is the quieter, more boutique onsen town, the one most Instagram photos of a 'Kyushu onsen village' actually show. The core sights fit a compact walk: Lake Kinrin (misty at sunrise, when the warm spring water meets cold morning air), Yunotsubo Street's cafes and craft shops, and day-use onsen at the ryokan that line the approach to the lake.
