Yanagawa — Canal Boats & Eels
Yanagawa, about 50 minutes south of Hakata, is built around a network of moats that once protected the Yanagawa Domain castle town. Today the moats are a leisurely 70-minute boat ride (donko-bune) through old samurai residential streets. Yanagawa is also where seiromushi — steamed eel served on rice in a bamboo box — was invented.
